A chimney cap keeps rain, snow, leaves and animals out of the flue and stops downdrafts. It is an inexpensive component that prevents expensive damage, and a great many Lexington-area chimneys either never had one or lost it years ago.

We also seal crowns and washes — the mortar surface at the top of the stack — which is where water most often begins working its way down into the masonry.
